Week 1 of elimination of food dyes

My daughter hasn't really missed the food dyes.  I expected more resistance.  Unfortunately, she's not eating many of the healthy dinners I make.  I used to make healthy dinners for my husband and myself and the kids would get chicken nuggets or something similar.  I tried to make small changes like cutting up chicken breast and coating it with bread crumbs or corn flakes.  At first this worked, but then they were on to me.  They won't eat that any more.  They also really like canned spaghetti and meatballs so I got an organic frozen alternate.  They didn't go for that.  They are opting for yogurt and salad or fruit instead of the dinner choice.  Both of my kids are at a healthy weight, so I'm allowing this for now.  I realize that I shouldn't expect them to convert to healthy eating overnight but I'm hoping that if I'm consistent, they'll come around.  I ask that they have a bite of everything offered for now.

I decided from the beginning that I will allow my daughter to participate in parties and special occasions where treats are offered.  Of course at the end  of week 1, there was a birthday party at school.  She ate pizza and cupcakes already.  I'm going to keep track of the frequency of these occasions.  I certainly don't want her to feel left out, but I don't want our healthy eating efforts to be sabotaged by others in our environment.  Stay tuned for a specific section that will address outside influences.
